Travel Guide: 48 hours in San Francisco

When you are lucky to visit San Francisco, you must spend your time very well. It is quite a big city, with a lot to do and to discover. Most people visit this city for the weekend or spend 2 or 3 days here when they make a road trip through California. As I am a proud citizen of this city, I prepared this San Francisco Travel Guide that tells you what to do, where to eat and where to go in this beautiful city when you have only 48 hours to explore.

San Francisco Travel Guide: Day 1 – Alcatraz and perfect views!

Book an early visit to Alcatraz to experience the life of the prisoners and the guards. When you return from the boat (which will enable you to make beautiful pictures of the city, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge) you can walk via Pier 39 to Fishermans Wharf – don’t forget to try a local chowder. From here you can take the cable car (Powell/Hyde Line) up to Lombard Street. Take an Uber to go to Twin Peaks to enjoy an extraordinary (but windy) view over the city. From here you can take a taxi back to Dolores Park and get an ice-cream at Bi-Rite. Go for a little walk through the Mission and have a drink at El Techo (happy hour!) and dinner at Foreign Cinema (or the best burrito in town at the La Taqueria).

San Francisco Travel Guide: Day 2 – Bike over the Golden Gate and other adventures in the City

Have an early breakfast at Jane on Fillmore and bike via the Marina (stop at the Palace of Fine Arts) and the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. From there you can take the ferry back which will bring you to the Ferry Building. Cross Market Street towards Hayes Street for Lunch at Souvla’s. Bike up the hill and take a picture in front of the famous Painted Ladies. From here you can go to Golden Gate Park and stop at Cliff House for a drink and view over the wild sea. If you like chicken, make sure to make a reservation for Zuni on Market Street or go to on Chestnut Street in the Marina to have the best burger in town at Causwells or a delicious casual Italian dinner at Delarosa.
