The first thing we did after we booked our tickets to Marrakesh, was making a reservation at Le Comptoir Darna, a restaurant in the new town of Marrakesh. In the capital of Morocco are a lot of restaurants, but we really wanted to dine here on the first night of our trip. Because this place is more than a restaurant, it is a very exceptional night out!
When we entered the restaurant at 9pm we were kindly welcomed and brought to our table on the top floor. It was not that crowded yet, but there sure was a very vibrant, cozy and romantic atmosphere. We noted all kind of people who gathered here to have a wonderful night with their friends, family or date.
The menu offers traditional Moroccan dishes as well as platters that are inspired on the international cuisine. It was a difficult choice but our hostess kindly helped us making it. After we started with the ‘Assortment of “briouates”’, we shared the Lamb tagine with salty sweet prunes and roasted almonds and the Royal couscous with grilled merguez, roasted chicken, lamb chops and beef confit.
But you do not only go here to enjoy a delicious dinner; you also want to come to experience the perfect mix of occidental & oriental cultures. Because while you are sipping your wine, you will be surprised with the oriental live show. The belly dances and typical music turn this performance into a true once in a lifetime-experience.
To conclude this amazing first night and experience with the Moroccan culture and kitchen, we ordered a cocktail from the extensive menu and were offered some shisha. The room, that was fully packed was filled with smiling people and some of us got up to dance… We sincerely had an amazing night and would recommend this place to anyone who is lucky enough to visit Marrakesh!
