06 Jan The best high tea in bag heaven..!
There are a few typical Dutch things I miss now that I live the expat life in San Francisco. So when we were back in Amsterdam for Christmas I made sure I feed those cravings. Like eating ‘bitterballen‘ (kind of fried meatballs) and ‘ontbijtkoek‘ (kind of honey cake) as well as visiting my favourite places. Like the Museum of Bags and Pursus (Tassenmuseum Hendrikje). As I am a big baglover, you might understand that this place was a must visit! This museum has the biggest bag collection in the world with very unique and mind-blowing purses and bags. Moreover, Tassenmuseum Hendrikje is famous for its delicious high tea. Another appealing feature is that the museum is located in a beautiful traditional canal house with many charming, elegant and chic rooms. So when my friends asked me to go out for a high tea, I knew exactly where I wanted to go.

Tassenmuseum Hendrikje is awarded as one of the 10 Best Fashion Museums of the World and tells the fascinating story of bags and pursue throughout the centuries. The museum showcases an enormous collection of approximately 5000 bags and purses (from 1600 to the present). Moreover, the museum often has a special exhibition. And these months the theme is Royal Bags, which is super exciting as the royal families have set the fashion style for centuries. Some of the bags carried by the sovereigns even became iconic pieces, like the Kelly-Bag carried by Princess Grace. Even if you don’t love bags the way I do, your visit to this museum will be surprisingly interesting and fun. And don’t forget to enjoy the high tea after you experienced the journey through this extensive world of bags.

Having a high tea is always a very special treat and should be served in a charming, cozy and beautiful setting in a relaxing atmosphere. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje definitely lives up to these wishes. You can choose from the High Tea Hendrikje (two course) and the Classic High Tea (three course). We enjoyed the last one, starting with warm en cold savory bites and sandwiches, after which the delicious sweet dishes came on the table. We ended the high tea experience with scones topped with Devonshire clotted cream, jam and lemon curd. Oeh la la, this was so yummy!! And I’m actually very sad that I have to miss it for quite a while, so I strongly suggest that you go check it out and let me know whether you enjoyed your visit as much as I always do:)!
